Pet Surgery from Glastonbury Animal Hospital

In the course of an animal's life it is not unusual to require surgery- whether it is from injury, illness, or the removal of various tumors, or even dental surgery. Surgery may be part of returning to full health. When a pet owner hears that his or her furry friend is going to have surgery, there are a lot of questions that come to mind. Every pet owner deserves to have these questions answered. The dedicated team from Glastonbury Animal Hospital is here to make sure that everyone understands how veterinary pet surgery is carried out in our office.

Why Do Pets Need Surgery?

There are a few reasons why pets that come to see us at Glastonbury Animal Hospital might require surgery. Some of the most common surgical procedures that we perform include:

  • Dental procedures that are used to treat abscesses in the mouth, gum disease, and even tooth extractions
  • Orthopedic procedures which might be needed to repair torn ligaments or tendons as well as repair broken bones that might have occurred
  • Mass removal procedures to remove both benign and malignant tumors

How is Surgery Performed?

When a client comes to see us at Glastonbury Animal Hospital and their pet is going to require surgery, we first go through all the options available to make sure that our families know what to expect. On the day of the surgery,  we have the ability to perform blood testing in our in-house laboratory.  Your pet is then anesthetized and prepared for surgery.  This may include clipping and scrubbing the surgical site with anti-microbial soap.  Then, a sterile surgical procedure is performed in our dedicated surgery suite.  Pain relieving medications are administered and your animal is allowed to awaken in our recovery area.  Once awake, the family is contacted; then again when the pet is ready to go home. We will keep the family updated on how the surgery is going every step of the way. Another successful surgery is done! We are here to do what is best for the patient.
