Preventative Care – What to Expect

Annual wellness exams are crucial to ensuring a healthy and happy life for your four-legged family members. A veterinarian will examine your pet for health problems and discuss treatment options for any conditions. They will also offer advice about grooming needs, proper nutrition, important safety tips, and provide information about flea and tick prevention products.

Veterinary health exams are quick and painless. At your appointment, we will look at your pet’s ears, eyes, teeth, skin, and coat. A physical exam will check for any lumps, bumps, rashes, or signs of pain. Stool testing and blood samples help us identify parasites and internal problems.

We will also administer any mandatory vaccinations and talk to you about lifestyle factors to recommend any additional immunizations that are right for your pet.

Pet Immunizations: FAQS

Vaccines are the first line of defense against painful and debilitating diseases that affect cats and dogs. They are a safe and easy way to protect your pet.

While some immunizations are required by local government regulations, others are optional and depend on lifestyle and risk factors. For instance, pets that spend time at kennels or dog parks should get vaccinated for bordetella (kennel cough), whereas pets that don’t visit these places may not need protection. Other risk factors include your level of outdoor activity, what other animals your pet is exposed to, and which diseases are common in your area.

Mandatory vaccines for dogs include adenovirus-2 (adenovirus and hepatitis), distemper, parvovirus, and rabies. Cats must receive distemper, feline calicivirus, feline herpesvirus type 1, and rabies.

Training and Behavior

Annual wellness exams also provide an opportunity to address any concerns or questions about pet behaviors and emotional wellness. Your veterinarian can help you better understand your pet so you can both enjoy your relationship to the fullest. Whether it’s anxiety, house-training, or a new addition to the family, we can give you the tools and resources you need to ensure that everyone is cared for.
